SATs Revision Schedule

Information regarding what areas of learning we will be revising in year 6 to prepare them for SATs will be listed here. Check in on what we're doing for the week ahead and this gives you an opportunity to help your children at home.  Please read on to find out advice on times tables, spellings, grammar and what we are doing in school each week.

Revision Packs
These have come home now. The expectation is that children take some independence with them and focus on the areas that they know they find a bit tricky! If they spend time completing questions that they find easy and are getting right all of the time, it is a waste of their revision time to continue doing those types of questions. I would like them in when they are finished, I will be interested to flick through them and see how they are done. The idea of them is to benefit themseleves. It is up to them HOW much they do, but I do expect them to do SOME of the packs.
There are some more to come home and I would appreciate support from parents for children to revise these areas.

Times tables - I cannot stress just HOW important it is that all the children know their times tables off by heart up to 12 x 12. The 144 club is not enough practice for your child. They should be recalling them daily; in order, at random, backwards and the related inverse! Please help your child to learn their tables!!

Spellings - A list of SATs style spelling words will soon be coming home. This can be used in any way that you wish to at home. You may want to take some of the words at a time and give your child some tests at home. In school we will be revising for spelling along with grammar and really focussing on practicing the spelling patterns and using these in our writing. It is very important that your child knows their spelling pattern as they will be tested in SATs this year on their spellings and they are worth 20 marks out of 70.

Grammar - Please revise those different grammatical terms with your children at home. It is noticeable which children have already been learning these. They will be revising areas of grammar over the coming weeks and it is important to support this at home with quick-fire questions such as; What is the preposition in this sentence? How many verbs are on that page of your reading book? Definitly get involved!
