Term 5

Week beginning 18th May

We will have a busy last week of term, ending with sports day on Friday 22nd May. All parents are welcome to attend sports day. KS1 will be taking part in the morning from 9:30 till 11:45.

Week beginning 11th May

This week in English, we are carrying on with writing reviews. In phonics we are looking at adding the suffix -est to adjectives, which changes them to superlative adjectives.
Within maths, we are working on using inverse operations to answer questions, fractions and using mathematical language.
In our topic work, we are focusing on science this week and looking at natural and artificial sources of light.

Home learning
Up until the end of June, there will be a focus on maths within home learning. Also, there will be extra maths homework over half term.
Purple Mash login cards will come home this week. We are using the 2Animate programme to create short animations. This is also an amazing website with lots of learning resources. Feel free to explore but remember maths home learning is a priority!
We have set a short home learning task focusing on healthy living. This is optional but it would be great to be able to celebrate this home learning if you're able to help your child complete it.
The deadline for this task is May 22nd.

Request for cooking assistance

We have decided to put the profit from our plant sale into the cooking fund. We are looking for parents to come in, with ideas of healthy meals and help the children to cook them. Please speak to Mr Wichard before or after school if you are interested.

Week beginning 5th May (Tuesday)

Next week in English, we will be working on writing reviews of our favourite books. In our phonics lessons, we will be focusing on adding the suffix -er to verbs and adjectives. Within maths, we will be doubling, halving and estimating and rounding to the nearest ten and hundred. In topic work, we will be doing ICT animations, which will be based on the purple mash website. Children will find out about purple mash next week.

There is extra maths homework for next week as there is no handwriting activity. This is due to there being no handwriting lesson next week as it is a bank holiday.

Week beginning 27th April

We have had a super busy week practising for the class assembly.
We hope you enjoyed watching it just as much as we enjoyed performing it.

We have celebrated home learning this week and we were really impressed with the children's efforts. We have not had a chance to mark it yet but this will be done next week.

Hello, my name is Amy Treharne and I am a PGCE student from UWE. I am on placement in Ash Class until the end of June.
The children have been extremely welcoming the past two weeks and I am looking forward to spending more time with them and being a part of their learning journey.
If you see me in the playground feel free to come over and say hello.

(P.S. I'm sorry if they develop a Welsh accent).

Week beginning 20th April

'Story writing project'

Learners are invited to dress up as a character from their favourite book Monday 20th April. Learners are also invited to act out their favourite scene or read an extract from their favourite book. Parents are also invited to join their child to help them to do this. The idea is that parents will then remain in school to help their child write the scene as a story. Please sign in at the office at any time throughout the morning.

Term 5

Week beginning 13th April

'Lights, Camera, Action!'
This term, learners in Ash class will study animations, films and cinema. They will create their own animations using a camera and then record their own short film and edit it using software in ICT.

In English, learners will be focusing on reading, writing and performing play scripts to be recorded using a video camera. These short films will be reviewed by the other members of Ash class later in the term.

In Mathematics, learners will focus on measuring time, reading and writing 12 hour times in words and on a clock face (to the nearest 5 minutes)

Further information about the childrens' learning this term is available to view below.
